A telling tale of what becomes of us as we fall in love with our "smart" devices. We want our devices to be ever more intelligent, but at what price? How well do we want them to "know" us. Samantha is Theodore's girlfriend. She started out as just a friendly OS there to help him organize his files. She becomes very helpful to him - perhaps too much so. Theodore becomes completely emotionally dependent on "her." But, who is "she" really? I think this film is quite prescient. It is warning for what we are becoming. I saw this film when it first came out in 2013. Since then, every time I see someone looking down at their smart phone and smiling, I think of it. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned human interaction? Though the film does not explicitly address it, the movie does hint at what could become of a world where our smart devices are smarter than us and have their own ideas and ambitions? Call me a luddite, but I think it's time to hit the pause button and explore what potential damage lies ahead.
