Children might enjoy the first section when Paul is a boy, but I think they would probably lose interest once Paul sets off on his own. Post Civil War, Paul’s dream is to own his own land. With a strong determination he spends years of hard work and sacrifice to make that dream come true. He is a man of honor and integrity, but as a man of color he is not always treated in that same manner. This story is based on the author’s family and is a prequel to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, which I looked forward to reading soon.
I read this book when I was a young teenager. Loved it!
