Add a CommentBailey White gained prominence with her warm and witty commentaries on NPR in the nineties. Looking at these again over twenty years, I find they still have the same warmth, and they still bring on the chuckles. Her observations on her life in rural Georgia still resonate today, and show that we still have so much in common with each other. They are timeless.
I didn't know what to expect when this book was recommended to me, but I thought I'd at least read a few of the short chapters and take it from there. And then I kept reading one chapter after another, enjoying the fresh writing, quirky characters and real-life humor in White's stories. Each story is a gem in its own right, and some gems sparkle more than others. Still, the book is a good read, even if you don't know anyone from down South.
