"Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows the area like the back of her hand--she cares for its children at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk... Caire makes a simple offer--in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as a cold bargain soon falls prey to a passion neither can control--a passion that may well destroy them both."--P. [4] of cover.

4.25 Stars!

I've finally read my first Elizabeth Hoyt/Maiden Lane book and I am so in! The writing is sublime. I might not have loved every detail about the story line, but I was sucked in with the authentic dialogue, settings, and characterizations. I could go on forever about the writing and the author's wonderful prose, but I'm simply excited to read more from this often recommended author.

Review excerpt: "Oh my God, you guys. I think I’ve read my first crack book. The one that has some crazy going on and some plot elements I normally hate, but still I couldn’t put it down. The whole time I was reading 'Wicked Intentions' my rational mind would have thoughts like “that’s a lot of subplots” or “the hero is really being a clown,” and then the emotional side of me would say “Shut up and turn the pages!” This book was crazysauce all around, and somehow Elizabeth Hoyt pulls it off delightfully."

'Wicked Intentions' is the first book in Hoyt's 'Maiden Lane' series.

The series is so much more interesting in the beginning that its current state. The romance, the characters, the mystery of Ghost of St. Giles, even the setting itself, all of it is so much more interesting and enjoyable.

The first installment in a new series. Plot, twists, and turns. secondary characters you will remember and romance that sizzle between the two lead characters.

The plot is pretty unrealistic...guy with really bad reputation pays very uptight moralistic woman to be his guide in the worst part of London at night. Can't see this happening.
Despite that, I liked the sparks that fly between the two lead characters. Makes for some very steamy stuff!
Also, love these plots where the bad boy (who's not all bad) is reformed by the good girl (who's not all good).
