Those seemingly endless pages of the duck toiling away on the farm while the farmer sits back and yells out to the duck, "how's the work going?", were ABSOLUTELY HEARTBREAKING. HEART. BREAKING. Especially that last page where duck has been worked completely to the bone. Nevertheless, a lovely story where duck's friends pitch in to help make duck's life easier because they all love duck.

Also reminded me of Animal Farm.

This is a lovely book for younger readers. It has repetition and and engaging story line. Martin Waddell has plenty of other picture books aimed at the same age and so this lends itself to a great author study.

Had the kids in giggles when they had to keep exclaiming "Quack!"
