See, Larry, here's the problem. Your lack of educational background is gonna forever retard your movement up the UMart ladder. You're forever retarded, Crowne, 'cause you didn't go to college.

...years ago, a chief petty officer ordered me to stand watch until I saw the equator as we passed it, and I would recognize it by the big posts that were sunk into the ocean floor and spaced every 100 yards. And, obviously, I never hit my rack that night. Remember the old commercial for the Navy?
"Join the Navy, see the world"? Well, it's true. I did.

Dr. M. Oh's lectures:
The ships of finance sail upon roiling seas, with hidden shoals of junk debt,
squalls of undercapitalisation and tsunamis of the false value index. This course pack, written by guess who, is your map to a safe economic harbour.
You have entered Economics 1, Econ Prime. Trying to make sense of the complicated structure of economic law and theory? It's confusing until you read this course pack written by Ed Matsutani, Ph.D. That's me. Read this and follow me to economic enlightenment and power. ... That usually scares people. Yet none of you have fled. A good economic indicator.

As I said in chapter three the science of economics is a relatively simple discipline told by hard numbers. Anyone who can add, subtract, multiply, and divide can divine its truths. The social science of economics is told
by an ephemeral language. Contracts, quality differentials, pressure trends, the intangible elements of the Individual Value Index. ... Subtle interpretation is required. ... As is full concentration. Your device, please.
They call them "smart phones", but only dummies use them in my class.

Comment
Add a CommentI was thrilled when I found out that two of my favorite actors were in this movie but I was disappointed with how boring it was. I just hoped that it would have been better.
Wonderful
Hanks produced, directed and co-wrote the script. He also starred as a simple affable middle aged worker caught in the economic downturn. Robert played his opposite as a college professor with a loveless marriage. Both found new direction and purpose in their lives, thanks in part to the rest of colorful characters who included Cranston as the slacker husband and Takei the hilarious professor Matsutani, AKA Dr M. Oh.
This is pretty good. Quirky, perhaps. A journey for the main character that it quite different than what his life has been so far. We go on the journey with him, with its peculiar turns.
Pretty good movie!
Better than I expected. The supporting cast provides a lot of laughs.
I liked this more than I thought I would. It's not a great movie and I doubt I will ever watch it again, but it was a nice story about a man reinventing himself by taking classes at a community college. I think it's a good message that there are resources like community colleges out there that people don't often think about.
I shouldn't have watched this.
I'm a big fan for Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, but my honest feeling for this movie is a true disaster with big disappointment. Actually, I got so irritated while watching this film.
I'm now even doubting Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts as great actors, to my sadness.
Do not waste your time watching this movie! You might get even mad with the plot of the film and those actors. It's a total fiasco!
I couldn't get past the first 30 minutes of lifeless drivel. I hope nobody tells me this movie gets great, later in the story than I could force myself to watch.
What a fantasy land piece of crap. I couldn't believe hardly any of the situations put forward by this film. A fifty year old guy who loves his job at walmart. A hot young coed that just happens to want to be his best buddy. Pretty much just and eye rolling fest. Put your suspension of disbelief on ludicrous speed.
