A well-balanced overview, packed with facts. Interesting perspective on the war's impact on both Canadian and US social development as a result.

Just your average docudrama by PBS that consists of interviews with historians and sequenced re-enactments. It was all very factual that told the story of the forgotten war. Nothing to write home about but did a decent job of covering details of the war of 1812.

A wonderfully balanced and tacticly specific summation of an often misunderstood conflict. It has many points of view, and suitable debunking. A 'must see' for iconoclastic history buffs ! Two hours well spent.

Very informative and well researched. Interesting presentation, and narrator easy to follow. Well done.

What this documentary makes exceedingly clear is that, when all is taken into account, everyone lost the war of 1812. It was, as so many wars are, a very costly shmozzle rife with stupidity. One good thing that came out of it was the Star Spangled Banner, an inspired and inspiring anthem. Oh Canada is very humdrum in comparison.

I am wondering about the perspective on this one. It is an American product. Unfortunately most American products blow the horn for the U.S. and see no other perspective. I will watch it to see. After all the U.S started this war against Canada.

Highly informative documentary on the war; it could have added on an extra hour for greater detail. Enough of the key events of the war are explained with suitable historians and experts, covering all sides in the conflict.

Considering this is the 2nd 100 years since the start of the historic event, it is a must see. There are aspects that I did not know that were covered.

I am not so sure that the Canadian aspect was covered as fully as would be possible.

This new PBS documentry covers a lot in just 120 minutes. Since there is relatively little on video in the US about the War of 1812 anything new is worthwhile. With the 200th anniversary of the conflict coming up soon this work may help to spark some interest. Probably in order to cover the war in the detail it deserves a longer work would be required. Some aspects of the war were glossed over and the whole production had a certain racing quality to it as it tried to cover so much in a short amount of time. Still, as a general introduction to the conflict it is more than worthwhile, and some good historians associated with it were usefully employed. The video made a good point showing how differently the conflict is still viewed in Britain, Canada and the US to this day. Most Americans prefer to forget the numerous military embarrassments that were suffered during the war. In Canada a militia myth grew which sought to take away much of the credit which rightfully belongs to the small number of British regulars who held the line against the mostly ill-led disorganized masses of US invaders. In Britain today the war is largely unknown.
