This is a book about George Gipp and Knute Rockne and the development of the ND football program.

This book could have benefited from tighter writing or editing. There were many phrases repeated throughout the book which described George's gambling, pool playing and his not attending class or take any exams. Without actually counting, I bet that the number of times these such phrases appeared in the book was over 15.

I also found the beginning of the book hard to follow as it was not sequential. It jumped back and forth from George's initial appearance at Notre Dame to Rockne's playing career to Rockne's coaching predecessor arrival on campus.

Prominent use of words that are not normally used in every day life were interspersed throughout the book. It's like the author was trying to show off his expansive vocabulary.
