After 24 years in prison, convicted killer Jason Jessup has been exonerated by new DNA evidence. Longtime defense attorney Mickey Haller is convinced Jessup is guilty, and he takes the case on the condition that he gets to choose his investigator, LAPD Detective Harry Bosch. Together, Bosch and Haller set off on a case fraught with political and personal danger. Opposing them is Jessup, now out on bail, a defense attorney who excels at manipulating the media, and a runaway eyewitness reluctant to testify after so many years.

I've been on the train with this series from the beginning. It is a good easy read but still engages the mind and provides from twists

A good courtroom/detective read.

A fast-paced, pulse-pounding, professional effort that delivers the excitement and entertainment that readers want. Teaming Bosch with Haller drives the story better and the courtroom drama is intriguing enough to keep readers on their toes.

I truly enjoy Michael Connelly novels.. They are fast paced, understandable plots. I like the 'returning' characters (kind of makes you think you know them). This novel reunited Haller, Bosch and Walling. A man who has spent 17 years in jail for abduction and murder, is getting a new trial based on DNA evidence. In a seemingly reckless move, Haller (working temporarily for the prosecution) lets the defendant, Jason Jessup out on his own recognizance. Is he hoping Jessup will mess up big time and there will be no need for a retrial? Jessup is put under constant surveillance by the city's most elite team - the SIS. The story realistically details how the prosecution sets up its case, the importance of the evidence and witnesses. Harry Bosch does fine detective work in locating the only living witness to the abduction as well as other evidence for the prosecution. It has an interesting twist, an exciting conclusion and a little teaser for perhaps another novel?? As always a very good read.

Not the best Connelly book by far, he was setting up future Haller/Bosch meets, no doubt?
Good deal of courtroom exposure, not too thrilled with the Haller character in this one, but still a good read.

Always up for a Harry Bosch investigation. Wondering if he will be able to pursue an investigation into the other murders...

Good, solid read but does not deserve all of the 5 star reviews. Simply written and treats readers as if they are a bit thick.

Excellent story once again from Micheal Connelly!

I have read several of his books and this has to be in the top 5. Exciting story line and with Bosch and Haller together it's worth the read!

Good story.. I found the parts that had the court drama in them, somewhat dry and tiring, at times...
