Emmanuel continues to grow as he struggles with his new classification as a nonwhite. Cut off from his sister, abandoned by his fellow officers, he is working alone in a city far from home.
As Apartheid tightens its grip on the country, more atrocities befall those without white documentation.

Set in South Africa during the 1950's, this novel captures the life and times of "old" South Africa. This is one of several South African titles recommended as a companion read to the newer novels coming out of South Africa.
