Add a CommentNot quite as good as the other two books in the series, in my opinion. Grandma Dowdel is still there, still doing the same hijinks, but they don't seem quite as funny this time around. There are some good parts, like the Kickapoo Indian princess, and the ten-year-old learning to drive, with stolen Christmas trees on top of the car and old Mrs. Wilcox bouncing around the back seat. But other parts, like Phyllis's "romance" with the 20-year-old, and Grandma Dowdel's scheme to send him off to war or to prison, are just not funny at all.
Great book , funny , heart warming . The 3rd book in a series but a stand alone book also. Would highly recommend this book for anyone who likes reading and humor . Delightful .
All three books in this series are awesome! It's the first time that we have found a book that the whole family can't wait to get their hands on. Awesome author.
Richard Pecks' books are always magical and wonderful. I love it!
Excellent book. Wonderful writing style.
I loved all three books! Definetely not just for kids!
This is a delightful series, and this one is the third title. Featuring the crusty, but kindhearted Grandma Dowdel, it's a wonderful flashback to times gone by. The first title in the series is A Long Way from Chicago, the second is A Year down under. Suitable for anyone from 8 to 80--it would be great to recommend to seniors who enjoy reading about times gone by.
