I've found Cynthia Rylant's books to be a bit hit and miss for me.

Snow is a big, beautiful grand slam hit of snowy winter memories of growing up in Ohio. The illustrations are so lovingly matched to the words and they just evoke the excitement, the wonder, the chilled noses of snow and the warmth of hot chocolate afterwards.

5 stars.

This book is just so delightful. I love so many of Cynthia Rylant's books (especially the Poppleton series and the Mr Putter and Tabby series and many of her other stand-alone books), and the illustrators she gets paired with are wonderful too. In this one, the text and the pictures are both marvellous. Children will like it for all the things it says about this substance they love, and it might even help some adults to like the white stuff too! I think my favourite page is the one in which the snow is a soft pink in the light of the setting sun. Magic.
