This is the twenty-third Hercule Poirot full length novel first published in 1948. By now Agatha Christie already written but not published her last Poirot novel. Therefore I think this led her to omit Captain Hastings and/or Inspector Japp from this mystery (as well as from all her novels that followed this one). I would consider this mystery a bit tricky thereby making solving the mystery difficult for the reader. The story also feels a bit detached without Poirot's Hastings along with the story telling in the third person. I found the level of suspense in this mystery is a bit below the Poirot stories written before 1945.

The end is so out of date it's hard to overlook, even when you know the book is going to be out of date when you start it. I read a lot of Christie and there's always some out of date attitudes but this one is really above and beyond.I'd give this one a miss.

Great book, but as another poster said, the last few pages were unlikable (very much a product of their time).

Loved the book, until the last two pages actually, won't say anything more. Definitely worth reading.
