New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly writes novels of brilliantly original suspense. In this electrifying tour de force, he takes us into a world of extremes: too much criminality, too much money, and too many ways to die.
In L.A. Cassie Black is another beautiful woman in a Porsche: except Cassie just did six years in prison and still has "outlaw juice" flowing in her veins. Now Cassie is returning to her old profession, taking down a money man in Vegas. But the perfect heist goes very wrong, and suddenly Cassie is on the run--with a near-psychotic Vegas "fixer" killing everyone who knew about the job. Between Cassie and the man hunting her are a few last secrets: like who really set up the job, why Cassie had to take the change, and how, in the end, it might all be a matter of the moon...

It’s well written, tightly plotted, everything you expect from Connelley, but I didn’t enjoy reading it. The characters were all so corrupt & despicable, there was no one to identify with or root for. No one to like. I detest con-artists, liars, & cheats, & that’s what all of them were. The only decent human beings were the little girl & her parents - the true victims.
I’m going back to Harry Bosch. He may bend the rules, but he’s on the right side.

Void Moon is my ninth Connelly book, and I enjoyed it. I read several reviews of the book before embarking on it. Most people raved about it, but there were a few dissatisfied souls. I had just finished Angels Flight, so I was looking forward to another non-Bosch book. It started off well, then slid into what is becoming the Connelly Slide, where the formula moves in and creativity and a twist take a coffee break. By the time I was finished with the book, I thought I had read a rendering for a formula TV movie. It was rather sad, good but sad. There was nothing original happening in the plot. After I was finished reading, I was more interested in who would play Cassie Black in the movie, than I was in thinking about how good the book was. I came up with Jennifer Connelly playing Cassie in the movie, Al Sapienza playing Karch, and Leo de Caprio playing Leo Renfro. Void Moon could have been much better, but it was a fun read, and I went through it pretty quickly. It isn't a book I would use to introduce Michael Connelly to my friends and relatives.

This new book is a success. It has a realistic plot, blessedly free of the apocalyptic events current in our society, well drawn characters with stereotypical personalities (the heroine, the detective, multiple villains) and endearingly detailed descriptions of the technical aspects of commiting crime. Best is the sustained suspense, worst is the belief stretching happy ending.

Amazingly good! Surprisingly good! A bit of Leonard, a bit of Chandler and a bit of Sandford. A perfect mix which makes for a fast paced, tension filled story with well-constructed characters. Thanks, Connelly!

I just could not put this book down, it is so different from any of his other novels that I wondered if he indeed wrote it. I loved it, such a departure from the Harry Bosch novels. I am looking forward to reading more of his non-series books.

Void Moon is to date my favorite Connelly story. I am re-reading all of his novels, in order. Obviously, good and bad are the theme, but he expertly makes the lead character share both. And, the lead is a woman. That's hard for a male author.
The story line is stretched, but believable with the pace. And I really like the ending. It's happy, but obviously short lived.
I give this novel a 10. Crais and Sanford, also part of my retirement re-read, are in the same tier.

I'm a huge Connelly fan and I have read everything, minus the boook that just came out in July 17. Void Moon is my favorite book I have ever read. I have read it more than once and it never get's old.

I'm reading a lot of Robert Crais and Dennis Lehane now. They are good, however they are not Connelly.

Fantastic read! Got some chapters left but I've enjoyed it very much so far. No Bosh and his step brother Lawyer , thank God ;). Connelly is a real story teller in the best Chandler's tradition.

No Harry Bosch, so what? This book was dissed by some because it was different than other Connelly series novels. It doesn't have the old familiar characters which turns some people off, even claiming that they couldn't finish reading it. Close minded people are always missing the point it seems. Well it stands alone, doesn't need Harry Bosch or the Lincoln Lawyer to make a great story. At times I felt like I was reading a Dean Koontz story, which is a compliment to Mr Connelly in my opinion. Different, and excellent.

Not like Bosch but fun read nonetheless.
