Add a CommentThough the plot sets up like a thriller, this is well-researched historical fiction about the disturbing mistreatment of women and mental health in the 1800s and above all, a moving story about the power of female friendship.
Fascinating fictional exploration of the horror that was nineteenth century mental institutions. One cannot help but root for our plucky heroine and the other likable, unfortunate women she meets along the way. A nineteenth century Girl, Interrupted.
