A well written mystery. Hard to put down, but nothing earth shattering.

I love David Baldacci. He is, perhaps, my favorite contemporary author. Most of his books are suspense-filled thrillers. His plots are fresh, not recycled pulp fiction. His characters are unique. Each book introduces fascinating individuals, each with their own personal skills, demons and elaborate histories.
Most of his books are difficult to put down. For me "Total Control" was hard to pick up. It lacks the attributes that make his other works so extraordinary. At roughly 700 pages, I believe this is his longest novel. (Not that this is an issue for me. I enjoy long books.) I kept picking up this book for over 300 pages before my desire to read more was removed from life-support. I turned to re-reading his book, "The Target," which is solid gold Baldacci!
Perhaps my expectations were too high, having previously read dozens of Baldacci's outstanding gems. Maybe my poor old brain could not follow the host of incidental characters and digression to sub-plots while waiting for the central story to progress. You be the judge. I cannot recommend this book, but don't let me dissuade you from picking it up. Clearly some people love this book. Maybe you will be one of them.

Corporate thriller about two rival telecommunication companies vying for a merger with a larger company that would change the face of the industry. The novel is non-stop action and intrigue from beginning to end; it keeps you guessing as to who the villains are who are motivated by greed. There are a lot of twists and turns in plot that are divulged as you read through it. Novel written around the advent of the internet and the taboo of homosexuality is evident during the time, so it's a little dated - but the suspense it evident. Thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is. Well written by Baldacci.
